YORK'S LEADING FABRIC SHOP AND SEWING STUDIO
York Fabric Shop Launch
Hoorayyy! I can finally announce that there is now a brand new fabric shop in York city centre. I am OVER THE MOON!!
It’s been a long long process to get the fabric shop opened as we were due to launch the Sewcialising bricks and mortar shop in April 2020 and then the lockdown was announced due to Covid-19, which was awful for everybody in the world.. and just bad timing for us. We did start selling our products online, which was great, as it proved to be popular online too.
The building where the fabric shop is, is a beautiful Grade II listed building, which was gutted to the core as it was a derelict building before and even needed a new shop floor, so we undertook structural works and replaced various beams etc. We brought the building back to life and we discovered various beautiful fireplaces and a lovely masonry floor in the basement too. It’s been a real labour of love and I’m so pleased my dreams and visions for the building can still go ahead, even if we have to do it with social distancing in place!
The coming weeks and months will be challenging whilst we find our feet. I have never owned a retail store before and I’m sure I have so much to learn. But I’m excited, passionate and eager to learn. We hope to expand our product ranges with time too, so we can offer beautiful fabrics, sewing patterns and various sewing notions and we hope to be York’s leading fabric shop moving forward. (Watch this space!)
We would love to start hosting weekly sewing workshops, but until we know it is safe to do so, these will be on hold until further notice. But as soon as we know and feel it is safe to do so, we will open our sewing studio up to the public, so people in York can learn to sew or improve their sewing skills and meet likeminded crafty people! Wish us luck! 🙂
LAUNCH DATE
We will open our doors on Saturday 5th December 2020.
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
Like most families in the world, we are trying to find our new normal and do what is best for our family. I am excited to launch the fabric shop and open our doors to the public, but obviously I am also apprehensive as I want it all to be as safe as possible. I’m sure the government will have certain guidelines for retail shops to follow either way, But for now I would appreciate it if we followed the following rules:
- Maximum 3 people in the shop at all times.
- Sanitise your hands as you come in.
- Keep your distance, 2 metres, also outside if you are queueing to get inside.
- Maximum 15 minutes per customer.
- You can order online and pick up your packages in store.
Should you have any further questions or concerns, or you have any constructive feedback or recommendations for fabric suppliers or product recommendations, we welcome it all!
Thank you in advance for your understanding and your support during these uncertain times.
Kind regards
Kathy
